Resolution 11952 RESOLUTION NO. 11952
WHEREAS, the University of Miami has earned recognition for
itself and the South Florida community as an outstanding seat of
higher learning; and
WHEREAS, its football team, the Hurricanes, has established
itself among the nation ' s outstanding competitors through its
gridiron accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, its intersectional meetings with leading collegiate
elevens from all over the U. S. have focused national press,
television and radio attention on our area; and
WHEREAS, having covered itself with glory in an initial
victory against the Colorado Buffaloes, the team will open its
1966 home schedule against Florida State in the Orange Bowl
Saturday night;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the members of the
Miami Beach City Council commend the University of Miami for these
achievements, and urges the citizenry of Miami Beach to give full
support to these athletic endeavors in person as well as in spirit.
AND, FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED that this resolution become part
of the permanent records of the City of Miami Beach and a copy be
presented to Andy Gustafson, Athletic Director of the University
of Miami, as a tangible token of esteem, affection and sincere
appreciation.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 21st day of September, A. D. , 1966.
