Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, November 13, 2018
Members in attendance – Robin Schwartz, Cindy Brown,
Jamie Guirola, Herb Sosa, George Neary, Elizabeth

Called to order at 1:00 p.m.
Ongoing Business:
A. Approval of the October 9, 2018 minutes, Motion: George Neary, Second: Herb Sosa,
all in favor.
B. MBPD Updates – Juan Sanchez spoke. He said he will be a reserve office and service
as backup. AIDS quilt unveiling on 12/1/18 in the Miami Beach Police Department
lobby during Art Basel Week and they are the first Police Department to do so.
Discussion on the future use.
C. GMCVB / social media updates – Dan Rios spoke. He spoke about the Bogota,
Colombia trip with Commissioner Góngora. He attended the pride meeting, he
attended the crosswalk ribbon cutting, Gay 8, and Winter in Florida publication.
Discussion was held. There will be a new event called Aspen Gay Ski Week, there will
be a roll out of geofencing with 830,000 worth of digital ads/impressions.
New Business:
A. Discussion on City celebration of the crosswalk- Robin spoke. She mentioned that the
Committee only received the invitation 2 days before. Discussion was held that
politicans spoke and also Tony Lima was called up to speak. Robin also expressed her
opinion that the Committee should have been included in the planning and more notice
to the community as well. Commissioners lack connection and knowledge of the
Committee. Discussion was held that the Committee should be contacted for input of
any LGBTQ event and that the Committee is not currently part of the process. George
spoke. He said he regrets that the Chair of the Committee wasn’t asked to do anything
at the event, not speak or be in a picture. Dale spoke. He said in regards to what Robin
said about the Commissioners not being connected and knowledge of the Committee,
that Commissioner Góngora and Commissioner Steinberg are connected and know
about the Committee. Herb spoke. He said the Committee members were all a ppointed
by the Commissioners and he spoke about how Pulse was handled. Elias Gonzalez,
Commissioner Samuelian’s aide spoke and said a solution could be to hjave a
discussion item or the Committee could do a resolution which states that the City has
to work with the Committees that touch the community and also work directly with the
Committee Members

Mayor’s Office. He suggested a formal process for codification of future plans. Liz
spoke and said the crosswalk has been an effort of the Committee for a long time.
Discussion was held. Jamie spoke, he suggested the Committee draft an LTC. Robin
said she will contact the City Manager and draft a memorandum.
B. Elias Gonzalez, Commissioner Samuelian’s Aide visiting meeting- please see above.
Subcommittees Reports and Next Actions:
1) HRC Rating (Dale, Herb, Cindy, Liz)- Dale spoke and reminded everyone that it is his
last year on the Committee. He will access to all files that he has for the HRC
submission.
2) LGBTQ Visibility/Marketing/ Tourism(Gayle, George, Mark, Jamie, Alex, Stephen)-
George spoke about the LGBTQ monument.
3) Health and Wellness (Ricki, Jamie, Craig)- Craig spoke.
4) Housing (Cindy, Robin, George, Roger)- Cindy is the lead. Add Senior to front of the
name.
5) Ad hoc subcommittee for Terranova art installation(George, David, and Gayle)- George
said this installation is not happening. This subcommittee will end.
