Review Minutes from prior month and approve
1. Beach High Steam to be discussed at next meeting.
2. Alumni program for Nautilus Middle School to be discussed at next meeting
3. Kindness Club to be discussed at next meeting
4. Long term goal of Miami Beach Senior High to be discussed at next meeting
5. Tom Mooney From Planning to continue to be discussed at next meeting. Rogelio
Madan provided information based on 12/25/17 ordinance with 4 areas: 5 th St. and Alton,
8th Street and Alton, Alton 13th and 15th Street, and 71st Collins. Request BTR list for
educational facilities.
6. Fence around Nautilus – Josh to reach out to Tiva Leser regarding meeting between
Nautilus PTSA and HOA.
7. Miami Beach Drop off lane

Motion Text:
The Committee for Quality Education recommends the Miami Beach Mayor and
Commission request a feasibility study be done pertaining to a drop-off lane on Dade
Boulevard for Miami Beach Senior High School families.
The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commissio n to support the
above request.
Motion Passage: Votes 6-4
8. Children uber presentation – Candice Safer provided information on the Zing Rides
community ride sharing for kids www.zingrides.com
9. Enhancements Survey results reviewed and to provide costs for unfunded enhancements
to commission finance committee per motion of QEC from December in February/March
2018.
10. Update on Legislation move to next meeting.
11. Biscayne Elementary request to review L Turn at 75th and Dickens to be discussed at next
meeting

12. Search and seizure canine searches discussed with Sgt. Anjum of MDCPS. Random
number generator explained. MDCPS requested Public Records request be made for
more specific information. Leslie Rosenfeld to make request.
13. School Board update provided.
14. GEO Bond below the line items information requested
15. Education Page Website discussion added with motion below.

Motion Text:
The Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Mayor and Commission
create a promotional media project highlighting each of Miami Beach’s public schools
and ensure the City’s education webpage(s) remains on the City’s main website
homepage as a quick link/most visited icon.
The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the
above request.

16. Cell Phone Ban at Elementary and Middle school discussed per commission item C4P
and C7AC referral from January 17, 2018 Commission Agenda. Members prefer to have
kids with cell phones. MDCPS policy BYOD (Bring your own device) encourages
student use of personal cell phones. There is a Sprint grant for students with no cell
phones to provide cell phones to students.
