C: Executive Staff Dr. Leslii`osenfeld, Chief Learning Development Officer KGB/L City of Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education Meeting of March 20, 2018 Members Present: Beverly Heller, Karen Edelstein, Judith Berson -Levinson, Jill Swartz, Karmencha Santana -Vega, Faiza Liban, Joshua Levy, Mary Keinath, Betsy Mateu, Ivan Alvarez, Joshua Levy and Beth Edwards Members Absent: Tiffany Heckler and Yvette Tache Motion made by Jill Swartz Motion seconded by Dr. Judith Berson -Levinson Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Mayor and Commission to replace the City funded School Liaison Officers with school safety/CMB police/resource officers armed) to be funded and supported in part by the Miami -Dade County Public Schools (M- DCPS). The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 9-2 Motion made by Ivan Alvarez Motion seconded by Beverly Heller Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Mayor and Commission to support M-DCPS and United Teachers of Dade (UTD) position to only allow law enforcement representatives to carry fire arms on school property. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 10-1 Motion made by Mary Keinath Motion seconded by Beth Edwards Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Mayor and Commission ensure that our feeder pattern schools are following all M-DCPS Anti -Bullying procedures. Also, that the City of Miami Beach monitors our feeder pattern schools as we do not want any child to feel the need to use the Hope scholarship. PURPOSE—The Hope Scholarship Program is established to provide the parent of a public school student who was subjected to an incident listed under program eligibility, an opportunity to transfer the student to another public school or to request a scholarship for the student to enroll in and attend an eligible private school. PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY.—Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, contingent upon available funds, and on a first come, first-served basis, a student enrolled in a Florida public school in kindergarten through grade 12 is eligible for a scholarship under this program if the student has been subjected to an incident of battery; harassment; hazing; bullying; kidnapping; physical attack; robbery; sexual offenses, harassment, assault, or battery; threat or intimidation; or fighting at school. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 10-0
