Parent/Mayor Education Meeting May 10 Update provided including discussion on PTSA funding for next year, MB PD in schools, Beach High field, arts delivery through electives, mental health expansion, and college prep program 2. Rain Drop Child Care Presentation – Commission referral C4AF Feb. 14, 2018 – discussed issue with monthly facility use agreement. Karp’s Office requested to review the issue and report back in August. 3. Drug Prevention and Intervention Series –last session April 26 held. Series well received and valuable. Posted to the website for reference 4. Bus Survey– Commission item R9L Feb. 14 discussed. City to solicit interest in pilot for the 2018-19 school year. 5. Educational Enhancement approved at April 11 Commission meeting discussed and reviewed: • Reading tutors (South Point, Fienberg Fisher, North Beach, Biscayne & Nautilus) $50,000 • Math tutors (Nautilus & Beach High) $20,000 • Mental Health expansion (South Point, Fienberg Fisher, North Beach, Biscayne & Nautilus) $60,000 • College Prep Program (Beach High) $12,500 • After-school programs (Biscayne & Fienberg) $60,000 • VPK 1 class (Biscayne) $35,000 6. FCWPC referral Education Compact Coordinator Position Motion made by Faiza Liban Motion seconded by Karen Edelstein Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education requests the Mayor and Commission support the hiring of a full-time Education Compact Coordinator. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commissio n to support the above request. School Board update provided 12. GEO Bond below the line items information deferred with MDCPS to provide in August 13.
