Review Minutes from September meeting and approve
1. Youth Music Festival auditions are underway and flyers have been distributed to all
schools
2. Rain Drop Child Care facility use update – Commission referral C4AF Feb. 14, 2018
was discussed and the facility has an agreement for this school year.
3. Educational Enhancement approved at April 11 Commission meeting update provided for
each of the initiatives below:
• Reading tutors (South Point, Fienberg Fisher, North Beach, Biscayne & Nautilus)
• Math tutors (Nautilus & Beach High)
• Mental Health expansion (South Point, Fienberg Fisher, North Beach, Biscayne &
Nautilus)
• College Prep Program (Beach High)
• After-school programs (Biscayne & Fienberg)
4. October Commission Meeting items: e-cigarette ordinance review discussed and request
to include information to parents on what to look for during drug prevention series, and to
include tactical demonstration
5. Computer lab count provided verbally with 508 computers at MBSH for testing and
1,573 computers at site for students to use throughout the year not for testing. MDCPS to
provide unfunded capital needs info for next meeting
6. Youth Job Fair January 17 from 10-1 at MBSH
7. Fence around Nautilus and water fountain installation delayed to January
8. Miami Beach Drop off lane and Biscayne Elementary request to review L Turn at 75th
and Dickens and school zone at Fienberg Espanola and Drexel deferred to next meeting
9. PTA Feeder Pattern Report update provided
10. Hurricane Student Plan – MDCPS will provide at November meeting
11. Student Expo date November 15
12. Affordable housing info provided by CMB staff
13. Commissioner Aleman requested support for Convention Center hotel to fund
educational enhancements
14. School Board update provided
