Miami Beach Supports National PTA Resolution on LGBTQ Youth
— Adopting a Policy of Inclusiveness in All City-Operated Youth Programs —
Miami Beach, FL – The Miami Beach Mayor and City Commission have been at the
forefront of championing the rights of the LGBTQ community. As such, they have passed
a resolution supporting the National Parent Teacher Association’s (PTA) resolution on
LGBTQ individuals as a protected class and adopting a policy of inclusiveness in all city-
operated, city-sponsored and city-partnered youth programs.
“We are proud to stand with the National PTA to ensure LGBTQ individuals are recognized
as a protected class — an effort to protect students from bullying and discrimination,” said
Commissioner Micky Steinberg.
The city's Parks and Recreation Department already has an established Anti-Bullying
Policy, which applies to all of its programs and facilities, and which is required to be
acknowledged and signed by all parents/guardians and by all participants prior to
participating in any youth program.
“This action emphasizes our commitment for LGBTQ youth to ensure a safe and
inclusive environment for all students,” added Commissioner John Elizabeth Alemán.
