Miami Beach Receives Half a Million Dollars for Middle Beach Trolley
-- To Cover Substantial Part of Service Costs --
Miami Beach, FL – Within less than one year, the Middle Beach trolley loop has
provided thousands of Miami Beach residents and visitors the ability to easily commute
throughout the urban-island, free of charge. The route connects riders from Lincoln Road
to the 41 Street area, including Mount Sinai Medical Center — providing reliable
transportation service through some of the city’s busiest corridors.
As part of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Transit Service
Development Program, the state District 6 Office has awarded the city $500,000 for
fiscal year 2018/2019 to apply towards the operation of its Middle Beach trolley loop
service.
“We are immensely grateful to have received this additional funding,” expressed City
Manager Jimmy L. Morales. “Being granted approximately half of the FDOT District 6
allocation is an honor and a responsibility to continue setting the standard locally in
providing exemplary transportation service to our residents and visitors.”
Competing amongst numerous municipal circulator services, the City of Miami Beach
was chosen to be one of the exclusive few to receive the grant by virtue of the trolley’s
quality and continuity of service. This grant is the largest the city’s transportation
department has been awarded since trolley operation began in 2014.
