Miami Beach is Over the Moon with Oscar Win
-- City Congratulates Best Picture Recipient --
Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach congratulates the entire cast and crew of
Moonlight, winner of three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Supporting
Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay, a first for any film produced in Florida. Miami
Beach was thrilled to host the production team on location and in hotels in the fall of
2015.
“Moonlight is a beautiful, important, universal and uniting film that takes place in Miami
and Miami Beach. Its Oscars win is another high-water mark for our cultural history,”
said Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine. “The fabric of Miami Beach’s history is tied into
filmed entertainment, from Frank Sinatra, Jackie Gleason and Miami Vice to Scarface
and now Moonlight. We strive to remain an inclusive, supportive and welcoming city to
all content creators, like the remarkable Barry Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney.”
Miami Beach is a camera-ready town whose goal is to make it as easy as possible for all
filmmakers to capture the city’s magic for the entire world to see.
