Miami Beach Police Arrest Ernesto Orsetti
-- For Impersonating MBPD PIO Ernesto Rodriguez --
Miami Beach, FL – Miami Beach resident Ernesto Orsetti was arrested today for a
crime that occurred in January 2017. He is charged with Impersonating a Law
Enforcement Officer, a third degree felony. His offense was particularly galling to the
Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) in that he impersonated the persona of their
well-regarded Public Information Officer Ernesto Rodriguez on social media.
“The behavior here was outrageous. It threatened to damage the reputation of our
superb Public Information Officer, as well as the Miami Beach Police Department brand,”
said MBPD Chief Daniel J. Oates. “We simply can’t tolerate such an impersonation, and
I am glad Mr. Orsetti will now be held accountable.”
Orsetti’s behavior included creating a fake Twitter account and assuming Officer
Rodriguez’ identify, using his photo, and engaging with local media, elected officials and
the community as if he was PIO Rodriguez.
The arrest report is still being finalized and will be distributed once completed.
