Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Sabrina’s Playground
-- The City’s First Fully ADA Accessible Playground and All-Inclusive Playground –
WHAT/WHO: The City of Miami Beach is dedicated to creating a community for all to live,
work and play. In partnership with the Sabrina Cohen Foundation, the city
has mobilized their commitment to build a better quality of life for special
populations by constructing the first fully ADA accessible playground at
Allison Park. Join us for a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the opening of
the playground for public use and enabling children of all abilities the chance
to play together.
The fully accessible beachside location features all-inclusive exercise and
play equipment, alongside other accommodating features. Designed with
residents and visitors with disabilities in mind, the poured-in-place safety
surface features earth tones that complement the area’s natural
environment and incorporates a pattern that dictates walking paths from
safety zones for improved safety and maneuverability.
“The park’s location is ideal for an adaptive playground given the restrooms,
parking and other elements already in place that fully service the park’s
users,” expressed Foundation Founder Sabrina Cohen, whose devoted work
to the project has yielded quick results. “More so, it’s a dedicated place to
continue our hard work of putting lives back in motion by allowing children
the opportunity to enjoy public spaces.”
In honor of Cohen’s dedication to ensure people with disabilities enjoy life to
their fullest capability, the playground will rightfully be named Sabrina’s
Playground.
Located alongside native beachfront dunes, the playground’s close proximity
to the beach ensures a unique and tailored ADA accessible dune crossing in
order to provide beach access for all. An existing lifeguard tower is located
directly on-site allowing Ocean Rescue greater ability to provide free beach
wheelchair service during lifeguard duty hours daily.
