Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for West Avenue Bridge
-- Improving Mobility in the Sunset Harbour and West Avenue Neighborhoods --
WHAT/WHO: A main artery for Miami Beach commuters, West Avenue is a mile long
roadway connected to the MacArthur Causeway and Venetian
Causeway – and now, more directly to 17 Street.
The newly constructed West Avenue Bridge provides further mobility on
and off the urban-island by providing an additional avenue for traffic into
the Sunset Harbour neighborhood and connectivity across the Collins
Canal. Linking the area’s vehicular traffic and catering to the bicycle and
pedestrian network, the bridge’s expanded width is comprised of various
driving lanes, sidewalks and bike lanes – improving safety and mobility
for all modes of transportation. As part of the West Avenue Right-of-Way
Improvement Project, the bridge provides an extension of planned bike
lanes along West Avenue from 5 to 17 streets connecting the Dade
Boulevard Bike/Pedestrian Trail.
State-of-the-art traffic signals, rehabilitated roadway and seawall
improvements help alleviate traffic congestion and reduce the potential
for safety conflicts at the intersections of Dade Boulevard and Bay Road.
Join the Miami Beach Mayor & Commission for a ribbon cutting
ceremony opening the West Avenue Bridge for public use and benefit.
WHEN: Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 2:30 p.m.
