The True Building Blocks of the Community
– City of Miami Beach Hosts Sixth Annual Family Service Day–
Miami Beach, FL – Families, the heart of a community, are the foundation of a united,
benevolent city. For a sixth consecutive year, hundreds of volunteers of all ages will
gather for a day of public service on Saturday, October 21 and give back to the
community they love. In conjunction with the Miami Beach Fire Department, Dale, The
Surfrider Foundation, Teen Job Corps, VolunteerCleanUp.org and the Miami Beach
Regional Library, the City of Miami Beach will engage the community in philanthropic
projects that enhance local parks, restore sand dunes crucial to the city’s unique coastal
environment and transform schools into healthy and safe learning environments.
Promoting environmental sustainability and productive learning, this free event
introduces community-based services and resources to participants.
“To the generations of individual’s involved, the special day promotes dialogue between
the youth and senior citizens,” shared Director of Housing & Community Services Maria
Ruiz. “This hands-on participation creates an opportunity for ideas to be shared,
connections made and valuable public projects to be completed – inspiring continuous
progress and perpetuating the spirit of our great city.”
More than 400 volunteers are expected to gather from all areas of Miami-Dade County
and pitch in to improve the Miami Beach community. The free event will take place at

include the following:
Dune & waterway restoration
