Boston Takes Note of Miami Beach’s Resiliency Efforts
— Tour Starts Today at 2 p.m. —
WHO/WHAT: Paving the road to resiliency, the City of Miami Beach is guiding the City
of Boston on their journey down the untrodden path. Assistant Director of
Environment and Sustainability Margarita Wells, alongside other City
staff, will lead the City of Boston on a personal tour – sharing expertise
about the on-going resiliency initiatives and some of the lessons learned
in design and construction thus far.
“As pioneers in climate resilient design and construction, Boston officials
are seeking to learn from us,” noted Miami Beach Chief Resiliency
Officer Susanne M. Torriente. “We’re pleased to welcome them to our
City and hope to be of significant help on their current road elevation
project.”
The fellow coastal city’s mission is to establish climate resilience design
guidelines for managing segmental sea level rise adaption projects –
aiming to secure approximately four feet of flood protection by 2070.
“One of the conceptual solutions developed during the Climate Ready
Boston Charlestown study was elevating roadways to act as flood
barriers,” shared Climate Ready Boston’s Lead Resiliency Engineer Julia
A. Eaton. “This is one of the flood barrier options that we will be
preparing sample design documents and considerations for
implementation, including incremental planning. We’re looking forward to
learning from Miami Beach based on their experience as leaders in this
arena.”
WHEN: Monday, June 4 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
