City of Miami Beach Expands Its First-Time Homeowner Program
— Equipping Residents with the Proper Tools to Buy Their New Home —
Miami Beach, FL – First-time home buyers looking to purchase a home can often feel overwhelmed and
lost. Equipping residents with the tips and tools to buy their dream home, potential home owners in Miami
Beach no longer have to go through the complex process alone. With the help of a $13,027 grant from
the Florida Housing Finance Corporation (FHFC), the City of Miami Beach is expanding its First Time
Homeowner Program beyond providing financial assistance to educating residents — in English and
Spanish — on everything from credit scores to home inspections.
“Buying a home is one of the most significant financial decisions of your life,” said Mayor Dan Gelber. “We
hope this program will allow participating residents reach their homeownership goal faster.”
The sessions will welcome income-eligible residents to the City’s First Time Homebuyer Program
(FTHBP) as well as personally guide them through the intricate details and extensive steps of home
buying. The Opa-Locka Community Development Corporation (OLCDC) will host five group counseling
sessions at the North Shore Park and Youth Center on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following
dates:
• June 16 (Spanish)
• June 30 (English
• July 21 (Spanish)
• August 4 (English)
• August 18 (Spanish)
Participants will be given a certificate following their involvement in the group course, and have the
opportunity to continue their curriculum with one-on-one counseling sessions with OLCDC if they choose.
Interested residents are encouraged to call the Office of Housing and Community Services at
305.673.7260 for more information.
