A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, OPPOSING ENACTMENT
INTO LAW OF ANY LEGISLATION CONFERRING UPON
METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY THE POWER TO LEVY
AN ADDITIONAL SALES TAX BY ORDINANCE FOR
RAPID TRANSIT PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Council
of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that the Metropolitan Dade
County Commission of Dade County, Florida, is seeking legislation
conferring upon said Metropolitan Dade County Board of Commissioners
the power to impose an additional one percent (1%) sales tax for
Rapid Transit purposes, either by way of referendum election or
by adoption of an ordinance by the said Metropolitan Dade County
Board of Commissioners;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it is not opposed to any
legislation submitting the issue of an additional one percent (1%)
sales tax for said purposes to the electorate of Dade County, at
an election called for said purpose, but, however, it is vigorously
and unalterably opposed to any legislation conferring upon Metro-
politan Dade County Board of County Commissioners the power to
levy such additional tax by ordinance, or by any other kind or
species of mere fiat upon the part of such Board of County Commis-
sioners;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that copies of this resolution be trans-
mitted to each member of the Dade County Delegation to the 'State
Legislature; and to the Honorable Dempsey J. Barron, President of
the Senate, and to the Honorable Donald L. Tucker, Speaker of the
House of Representatives , and said Board of County Commissioners .
