• Financial literacy – Itai to review EVERFI (online program ) for next meeting
• R9R DISCUSS CREATING A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE PARKS & RECREATION
DEPARTMENT AND MIAMI BEACH SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL HONOR SOCIETIES, TO
PROVIDE A VOLUNTEER TUTORING PROGRAM FOR RECREATION YOUTH
PARTICIPANTS, AS REQUESTED BY THE YOUTH COMMISSION – Flyers to be sent to members
• R9 S DISCUSS HOLDING A JOB FAIR FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS LIVING IN MIAMI
BEACH, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MIAMI BEACH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, TO
ASSIST STUDENTS IN FINDING SUMMER JOBS, AS REQUESTED BY THE YOUTH
COMMISSION – discussed and requested to be held during school hours. If after-school perhaps at the Bass
in the evening. Dr. Rosenfeld to reach out to Chamber to discuss job fair interest.
• Florida League of Cities - 2018 Youth Council Community Service Contest – Carly to handle tutoring
and Hannah to handle job fair. Both dependent upon interest.
• C7AC (Jan. 17, 2018 Commission Meeting Referral) Urging the Florida Legislature to ban the use of
mobile phones by students in elementary and middle schools- MDCPS has BYOD and teaches
encourage use of phones. This to be deferred to March meeting for more discussion.
• Parkland tragedy discussed. March 24 March for Our Lives support. Following motion made.

The Youth Commission requests the Miami Beach Mayor and Commission support and sponsor an
appropriate location in the City of Miami Beach on March 24, 2018, for a ‘March for our Lives’ event to
“demand that a comprehensive and effective bill be immediately brought before Congress to address
these gun issues.”
The Youth Commission urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request.
