RESOLUTION NO. 2019-30680 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, WAIVING SPECIAL EVENT FEES, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $11,971.50, FOR THE ANNUAL MODEL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD THE WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 16-17, 2019 IN LUMMUS PARK ON THE 8TH STREET BEACHFRONT. WHEREAS, the annual Model Volleyball Tournament takes place during Miami Beach's peak season, over the weekend of February 16 -17, 2019. With the event being held on the 8th Street beachfront, it is anticipated to attract 15,000+ attendees, both tourists and locals, with excitement, open cultural experiences, while simultaneously accentuating the beautiful and renowned legendary event space; and WHEREAS, the tournament celebrates Miami Beach's passion for giving back to the community and supports a local charity, The Jack Brewer Foundation, which empowers women and children living in impoverished and underdeveloped communities by enabling food security, promoting access to education and cultural exchanges, and assisting in medical aid and disaster relief; and WHEREAS, with funds raised in the past, Model Volleyball was able to build the first Women's Cancer unit in Haiti together with the local model agency winning team; and WHEREAS, for the past 9 years, Model Volleyball has used only local Miami production vendors and businesses, making sure to give back to the growth of the City; and WHEREAS, should the City's special event fees be waived, Model Volleyball is hoping to provide a free and open-to-the-public concert on Sunday night in celebration of the event's 10th anniversary and the Presidents' Day holiday weekend; and WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends, and the Mayor and City Commission approve, the waiver of special event fees, in the total amount of $11,971.50, for the Model Volleyball Tournament, which represents $250.00 in application fees, $250.00 in permit fees, $900.00 in vehicle beach access passes, $5,950.00 in square footage fees, $1,584.00 in police administrative fees, and $3,037.50 in Lummus Park user fees. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby waive special event fees in the total amount of $11,971.50, as set forth herein, for the Model Volleyball Tournament to be held February 16-17, 2019 in Lummus Park on the 8th Street beachfront. ,,y 4.PASSED AND ADOPTED to;s�l�b':h•:l4of.)'an to M9.
