A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION, OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, OPPOSING ADOPTION OF THE
ORDINANCE PASSED ON FIRST READING BY THE BOARD OF
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA,
PROVIDING FOR COUNTY LICENSING AND REGULATION OF
THE TAXICAB AND FOR-HIRE PASSENGER MOTOR VEHICLE
INDUSTRY OPERATING WITHIN INCORPORATED AND UNIN-
CORPORATED DADE COUNTY.
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City
Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that the
Metropolitan Dade County Commission has passed on first reading
as Agenda Item No. 4 (a) on January 9, 1979, an ordinance pro-
viding for county licensing and regulation of the taxicab
industry operating within Dade County, Florida; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach, as a duly incorporated
municipality in Dade County, Florida, does license and regulate
for-hire passenger motor vehicles operating within the corporate
limits of the City of Miami Beach, Florida; and
WHEREAS, by its nature and character as a tourist
capital, and with-regard to the vast number of hotels located
within its boundaries, the City of Miami Beach is a unique
municipality and would not lend itself to County-wide regula-
tion of its taxicab industry; and
WHEREAS, the taxi service on Miami Beach has been out-'
standing and has more than amply served the needs and interests
of both the permanent residents and tourists; and
WHEREAS, if the proposed ordinance shall be adopted and.
shall be deemed legal and effective ,thereby opening the City of
Miami Beach to any and all taxicabs, the result will be that
certain unacceptable elements in the taxicab industry, which
are of the quality and nature that would not be preferable for
the City of Miami Beach, will be operating with little or no
supervision or enforcement within the City of Miami Beach;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it is vigorously
opposed to the proposed ordinance passed on the first reading
by the Board of County Commissioners of. Dade County, Florida,
as Agenda Item No, 4 (a) , on January 9, 1979, repealing
Chapter 31 of the Code of Metropolitan Dade County, Florida,
in its entirety, and enacting a new Chapter 31 which would
provide for county licensing and regulation of for-hire passenger
motor vehicles operating within Dade County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that copies of this resolution be trans •

mitted to each member of the Metropolitan Dade County Board of
Commissioners.
