A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, PETITIONING THE PRESIDENT OF
THE UNITED STATES AND THE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA
DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO TAKE
EVERY POSSIBLE AND PERMISSIBLE AMELIORATIVE ACTION
DIRECTED TO THE WORLD NUCLEAR POWERS TO OPPOSE,
WITH UNALTERABLE DETERMINATION, THE PROLIFERATION
OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS.
WHEREAS, it is universally recognized that the prolifera-
tion of nuclear weapons is an irrational path to peace among nations;
and
WHEREAS, President Carter and President Brezhnev have
recently signed a non-proliferation treaty known as SALT II, re-
stricting the development and manufacture of nuclear weapons;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City of Miami Beach
endorses the principles and concepts of the SALT II Agreement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the President of the United States and
the Florida Delegation to the United States Congress be petitioned
to do everything within their power to prohibit and curb the prolifera-
tion of nuclear weapons, while at the same time protect the basic
interests of the citizens of this great Country; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE 'CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that certified copies of this resolution
be transmitted to the. President of the United States and to the
members of the Florida Delegation to the United States Congress
with a request that they concur in their action hereinabove
respectfully requested.
