Resolution 79-16057 RESOLUTION NO. 79-16057
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, FOR THE MEMORIALIZATION
OF THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO PROCURE THE ADOPTION
OF A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT INCREASING HOMESTEAD
EXEMPTION TO TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS .
WHEREAS , with the shrinking of the dollar the vast
majority of our citizens on Miami Beach on a fixed income are
being deprived of their normal daily needs; and
WHEREAS, their meager savings are slowly but surely
evaporating and that these same people are the only ones who
actually pay property taxes out of their own pockets; and
WHEREAS, inflation has so diminished the FIVE THOUSAND
DOLLAR Homestead Exemption that a substantial increase in Homestead
Exemption is long overdue;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Florida Legislature be
respectfully memorialized to immediately deal with this problem and
take the necessary steps to pass a constitutional amendment to place
before the people of the State of Florida seeking to increase the
Homestead Exemption to TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS .
PASSED and ADOPTED this 17th day of October, 1979 .
