SUBJECT : Miami -Dade County Public Schools Community Partner Recognition
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform the Mayor and Commissioner that the
City of Miami Beach was awarded the Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) Exemplary
Dade Partners award for the North Region at the M-DCPS Community Partners Recognition
Luncheon on March 21, 2019 .
The City of Miami Beach has made it a mission to provide financial and professional support to
academic programs at public schools within our City limits. The City supported the launch of the
International Baccalaureate (IB) Program at all Miami Beach schools and continues to fund
professional development for teaching staff to ensure every child has access to the IB program. The
City has also been a catalyst in helping expand dual enrollment options at both Miami Beach Senior
High School and Nautilus Middle School.
Additionally, the City supports mental health professionals, voluntary pre-kindergarten, agenda
planners, Common Threads, after-school teen programs, internships, drug prevention and
intervention series, school resource officers/crossing guards, Anti-Defamation League No Place for
Hate program, reading and math interventionists (tutors), college preparation programs, police
officers, after-school enrichments, and mental health expansion. Recently, the City partnered with
six cultural institutions for a pilot STEAM Plus initiative to increase arts education across our public
schools.
Since the Education Compact implementation on January 16, 2008, the City of Miami Beach has
collaborated with The School Board of Miami-Dade County Public Schools to improve educational
opportunities for youth in the City. The City was nominated by Miami Beach Sen ior High School.
