Action: Motion made by Ms. Deborah Schwartz and seconded
by Ms.Dona Zemo. Motion passed unanimously.

shelter visits
The schedule will be presented to the
committee in the next meeting
New Business
Motion- The Committee recommends that the City
Commission explore the installation of portable showers to
encourage the homeless to seek services and supports.
Voting: Motion was moved by Gail Harris and
seconded by Donna Zemo. Motion passed
unanimously.
New Business
Item: Alcohol sale and the impact on homelessness
Outcome-The committee discussed the benefits and challenges in
changing the selling times of alcohol to 10:00am
Motion: The committee motioned to request that packaged alcohol
selling time be amended to 10:00am
Voting: Motion was moved by Lori Bakkum- and seconded by
Freddy Funes. 6 to 7 vote from the committee

Item: Discussion on portable bathrooms
Outcome- Discussion, no motion

Item: Vendor licenses for the homeless
Outcome- Item not discussed because of
time. Item will be continued at next meeting.

1.Ms. McPherson presented on Sanitation’s efforts, in conjunction
with JCS, to hire homeless person’s as part of its clean team.
2.Officer Llamoca shared story about a successful client being
placed in treatment through the court system.
3. Ms. Tarre presented a challenging story on an individual for
whom various engagement strategies have been utilized and
client continues to refuse services.
Good & Welfare
Ms. Navarrete shared her experience going to the
Homeless Trust Board meeting and hearing about a
success story of the placement of a chronic homeless
person in Miami who has been homeless for 31 years.
They were able to coordinate hotel services to assure
that he received help immediately.
Captain Wayne Jones shared about their program to
serve victims of human trafficking
Rev. Thompson shared about some of the free services
that Miami Beach Community Church provides. The
committee discussed the benefits of having those
services on a regular basis and expanding those services
to include showers.
