It was requested, going forward, that minutes would alternate between the liaisons. The Office of Housing and Community Services will complete May and June and the Police Department will complete the following two months. The Committee members present requested that meeting minutes be provided a week after the meeting for review and the following meeting agenda be provided a week before the next scheduled meeting. Old Business Item- Hotel Flyer follow up Item: No Panhandling Flyer Item: Flyer for Social Media about the homeless working and cleaning Miami Beach The Chair requested a follow up for the next meeting of the hotel flyer. The Committee would like the agenda to include items for a potential social media campaign. One had accepted shelter in April and was employed in our outreach employment program and had extended her gratitude to us before her untimely passing. Both will have their names forwarded to the Home less Trust for the annual memorial. Lincoln Road Lincoln Road hit a record (since this data has been collected) for homeless congregating/sleeping in the area. There was an average of 49 people per day this week. Feel Good Story This week, one of our homeless clients who is currently in shelter and previously employed in our outreach employment program was featured in a local media story. Our client had been arrested for stealing the bicycle belonging to former Representative Joe Garcia. In addition to turning his life around, he has made $600 in restitution ◘ The average number of shelter placements per 100,000 populace in Florida is 109. The City completed 540 placements in 2015. ◘ The average number of homeless persons per 100,000 populace in Florida is 100. The City's homeless count is 156. ◘ The City's population is 91,026. Director’s report Good & Welfare The Committee was reminded that the shelters’ tour is scheduled for Friday, June 24,2016. Participates should arrive promptly at 555 17th street, Office of Housing and Community Services Conference Room, by 1:30pm. The tour will include the Miami Rescue Mission and The Salvation Army. The tour will be led by Homeless Outreach Client Services Manager, Borinquen “Bo” Hall.
