A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING S. Z. BENNETT, REAL ESTATE
CONSULTANT, TO COMMENCE NEGOTIATIONS TO ACQUIRE THE
PROPERTY KNOWN AS THE ANCHOR HOTEL, 1581 WASHINGTON AVENUE,
FOR THE PURPOSE OF EXTENDING SIXTEENTH STREET EASTWARD
FROM WASHINGTON AVENUE TO COLLINS AVENUE; TQ ACQUIRE THE
PROPERTY LOCATED AT 1575 WASHINGTON AVENUE, FOR THE PURPOSE
OF ENLARGING THE EXISTING OFF STREET PARKING AREA; TO ACQUIRE
PROPERTY ON THE NORTH SIDE OF W, 40TH STREET BETWEEN ROYAL
PALM AVENUE AND PRAIRIE AVENUE, AND BETWEEN ROYAL PALM AVENUE
AND THE U. S. POST OFFICE, FOR PARKING PURPOSES TO SERVE
ARTHUR GODFREY ROAD; TO ACQUIRE THE PROPERTY SITUATED AT
1421 ALTON ROAD, FOR THE RELOCATION OF THE METERED PARKING
DIVISION HEADQiARTERS; AND TO EVALUATE PARKING COMMITTEE'S
RECOMMENDATION FOR MUNICIPAL PARKING ON PARKVIEW ISLAND
AND AUTHORIZE APPRAISALS THEREOF,
WHEREAS, on November 7, 1973, the electorate of the City of Miami Beach
approved a bond issue for the purpose of acquiring necessary land, right-of-way?
and the construction of a public street to be an extension of Sixteenth Street,
between Washington and Collins Avenue; and
WHEREAS, said bond issue included a proposal to acquire theproperty
generally known as the Anchor Hotel, for the purpose of extending Sixteenth.
Street eastward from Washington Avenue to Collins Avenue; and
WHEREAS, this project was recommeded over fifteen years ago for proper
traffic flow; and
WHEREAS, the Parking Committee of the City Commission recommends that
Mr, S. Z. Bennett be authorized to acquire on behalf of the City the property
known as the Anchor Hotel, located at 1581 Collins Avenue, for said purpose;
and
WHEREAS, the Parking Committee recommends that Mr. S. Z. Bennett be author-
ized to acquire for off street parking purposes, an additional lot lying south.
of the Anchor Hotel, and situated at 1575 Washington Avenue; and
WHEREAS, the Parking Committee recommends that Mr. S. Z, Bennett be author-
ized to acquire the property located on the north side of W. 40th Street lying
between Royal Palm Avenue and Prairie Avenue? and between Royal Palm Avenue
east to the U. S, Post Office, for parking purposes to Serve Arthur Godfrey Road;
and
WHEREAS, the Parking Committee recommends that Mr, S. Z, Bennett be author-
ized to acquire the property situated at 1421 Alton Road so as to relocate the
Parking Meter Division Headquarters to said location; and
WHEREAS, the Parking Committee recommends that its municipal parking
proposal for Parkview Island be evaluated and that appraisals be sought by
Mr. S. Z. Bennett;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Manager be authorized and directed, along
with Mr. S, Z. Bennett, Real Estate Consultant, to negotiate the acquisition of
the aforesaid properties in the name of the City of Miami, Beach, Florida, and
to report progress thereon to the City Commission.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 6th day of August, 1980.
