RESOLUTION NO. 80-16386
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY
MANAGER TO EXECUTE APPLICATIONS WITH
APPROPRIATE FEDERAL AND STATE AGENCIES
RELATIVE TO ASSISTANCE FOR THE REFUGEE
EMERGENCY AND RESETTLEMENT PROGRAMS.
WHEREAS, the influx of Cuban Haitian Refugees has placed a drain on
certain City services; and
WHEREAS, members of the City Commission and the Administration have
brought this problem to the attention of members of Congress and the
Federal Administration, petitioning relief; and
WHEREAS, there is every indication that aid will become available to
reimburse the City of Miami Beach for certain expenses deemed eligible by
either the State or Federal government. Funds will also be available for
ongoing services to meet this emergency. Further, the Federal government
has indicated that the Cuban Haitian Task Force will begin resettlement
activities for those refugees now temporarily housed on Miami Beach;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Manager are hereby
authorized and directed to enter into applications, agreements and
contracts on behalf of the City of Miami Beach for the purpose of
obtaining said funds.
