A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH
TRANSMITTING COPIES OF THE "SOUTH SHORE REVITALIZATION
STRATEGY", AN ELEMENT OF THE MIAMI BEACH COMPREHENSIVE PLAN,
TO THE STATE OF FLORIDA, DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS, THE
SOUTH FLORIDA REGIONAL PLANNING COUNCIL, THE DADE COUNTY
PLANNING DEPARTMENT AND TO SUCH OTHER LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
THAT HAVE FILED REQUESTS FOR COPIES OF SAME, FOR REVIEW AND
WRITTEN COMMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT
COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING ACT OF 1975, FLORIDA STATUTES s163.3161
ET SEQ.
WHEREAS, the City is authorized and required by the Local Government
Comprehensive Planning Act of 1975 as amended (hereinafter the "Act") (Florida Statutes
X163.3161 et seq.) to prepare, adopt, amend as necessary, and implement a comprehensive
plan; and
WHEREAS, the Act ( 163.3177(7)(h)) specifically provides that a redevelopment plan
may be an element of the Comprehensive Plan; and
WHEREAS, the City has adopted the Miami Beach Comprehensive Plan on
August 20, 1980 pursuant to the Act, which Comprehensive Plan incorporated by reference
the South Shore Redevelopment Plan adopted on March 2, 1977 by the City; and
WHEREAS, the City amended the Redevelopment Plan element of the Comprehensive
Plan on May 5, 1982 with the adoption of an Amended and Restated Redevelopment Plan for
the South Beach Redevelopment Project; and
WHEREAS, the Agency and the City have initiated the process of amending the
redevelopment element of the Comprehensive Plan through the development of a revised
redevelopment plan for the South Beach area emphasizing the goals and objectives as set
forth in City Commission Resolution No. 82-13222; and
WHEREAS, the revised redevelopment element, entitled "The South Shore
Revitalization Strategy" (July 1983) has been prepared pursuant to the guidelines of, and
incorporating the elements specified in the Local Government Comprehensive Planning Act
and the Community Redevelopment Act (Florida Statutes*163.360 et seq.); and
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Planning Board has held public hearings on the proposed
plan element on September 6, 1983 and September 15, 1983, giving due public notice
thereof, and has submitted its recommendations thereon; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Redevelopment Agency has considered and reviewed the
proposed redevelopment plan element on July 18, 1983 and on October 19, 1983 and has
submitted its recommendations thereon;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MIAMI BEACH CITY COMMISSION;
that the "South Shore Revitalization Strategy", a proposed revision to the redevelopment
element of the adopted Miami Beach Comprehensive Plan, along with modifications
proposed by the Miami Beach Planning Department, shall be forthwith submitted to: the
State of Florida Department of Community Affairs, the Dade County Planning Department,
the South Florida Regional Planning Council, and such other units of local government or
governmental agencies in the state that have filed with the City a request for copies of
proposed comprehensive plans or elements or portions thereof; for the purpose of soliciting
written comments on such proposed plan element in accordance with the Local Government
Comprehensive Planning Act of 1975.
