SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF LOCATING A FLORIDA
INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY CONSERVATORY OF FINE ARTS
CAMPUS IN THE CITY'S SOUTH SHORE REDEVELOPMENT
PROJECT AREA AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
ESTABLISH A WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH FIU OFFICIALS IN
ORDER TO EFFECTUATE THE PROPOSAL.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach, has prepared a new South Shore
Revitalization Strategy; and
WHEREAS, officials of Florida International University have formally submitted
a letter of interest in locating a proposed Conservatory of Fine Arts campus in the City's
South Shore Project area; and
WHEREAS, the future redevelopment of the area would be enhanced by the
introduction of an educational institution; and
WHEREAS, it is now appropriate for the City of Miami Beach and officials of
Florida International University to establish a working relationship in order to jointly
determine a location for the school, to make any necessary modifications to the South Shore
Revitalization Plan, and to expedite the redevelopment procedures for accomplishing the
project;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
That the City Commission supports the concept of locating a Florida
International University Conservatory of Fine Arts Campus in the South Shore
Redevelopment Project Area and the City Manager is authorized to establish a working
relationship with FIU officials in order to jointly determine a location for the school, to
make any necessary modifications to the south Shore Revitalization Plan, and to expedite
the redevelopment procedures for accomplishing the project.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 21st day of December , 1983.
