RESOLUTION 85-18057 RESOLUTION NO. 85-18057 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING ITS CONCERN AND OBJECTION TO THE FLORIDA STATE PLAN POLICIES REGARDING THE TOURISM INDUSTRY, WHEREAS, 1984-85 Florida State Plan, paragraph 41, states that one of the policies is to expand the economic benefits of tourism and to encourage a broader distribution of tourism throughout the state, and to promote the attractiveness of Florida with special emphasis placed on portions of the state not receiving large numbers of tourists, and WHEREAS the City of Miami Beach and several other cities in the state are especially attractive to tourists and their economic vitality are presently linked with tourism, and WHEREAS the Florida State plan as stated above is designed not only to spend State funds to promote new areas for tourism but is in effect creating competition for present tourism destinations such as Miami Beach; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, expresses its grave concern and resentment that the state of Florida is embarking upon a policy which not only fails to support continued tourism in Miami Beach and other cities already involved in tourism, but specifically ear- marks State funds to promote tourism in other areas which will be competitive to Miami Beach and urges that this policy be revisited. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Honorable Robert Graham, Governor of the State of Florida, and appropriate tourism officials in the State.
