A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH HONORING THE MEMORY OF
KENNETH OKA, FORMER MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH.
WHEREAS , KENNETH OKA was a councilman and mayor of Miami
Beach; and
WHEREAS , Kenneth Oka recently passed away leaving his
beloved wife , Gertrude , one son Jonathan , three daughters ,
Barbara, Michele and Stephanie, and three grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Oka was a lawyer , world traveler , music
lover and twice the mayor of Miami Beach having served as mayor
in 1957 and 1961 , and was a member of the Miami Beach City
Council , a justice of the peace and small-claims court judge,
retiring from politics in 1965; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Oka had a lifetime of community service as
past president of the Miami Beach Junior Chamber of Commerce ,
director of the Dade County League of Cities, Inc. , past exalted
ruler of the Miami Beach Elks Club and was honored as the Beach ' s
outstanding civic leader , founding president of the Miami Beach
Symphony Orchestra, president of the Summer Pops concerts and
president of the Miami Beach Community Concert series .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH:
Section 1 . That the Commission hereby expresses its respect
and regard for the late Kenneth Oka for his dedication and
achievements as a fine public servant and as a former Mayor and
Councilman and expresses its deep regret at his death.
Section 2 . That the Commission offers its sincere
condolences to the family of Kenneth Oka in their time of sorrow.
Section 3 . That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the
family of Kenneth Oka so that they will have a permanent reminder
of the high regard in which Kenneth Oka was held by his
colleagues .
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of April , 1987 .
