RESOLUTION 87-18868 RESOLUTION NO. 87-18868 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, WITH THE UNANIMOUS VOTE OF THE COMMISSION, REQUESTING THE STATE OF FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO EXEMPT ADVERTISING FROM THE STATE' S FIVE PERCENT SALES TAX. BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Miami Beach Commission, by unanimous vote, herewith resolves to request the Legislature of the State of Florida to exempt advertising from the State ' s five percent sales tax . The impact of this tax, now scheduled for July 1 , 1987 , already has had a devastating effect on the City of Miami Beach ' s major industry of tourism. Several major national conventions have cancelled scheduled meetings in the expanded Miami Beach Convention Center because of the announced tax on advertising . Many other major conventions, which will bring tens of millions of dollars to the economy of all South Florida, are considering cancelling those conventions now scheduled for future years or are declining to come to Florida because of the tax on advertising. In addition, national advertising expenditures of major corporations in Florida will decline dramatically because of the additional cost to advertisers for the purchase of space or time in Florida media . This resolution is adopted with a sense of urgency so that no additional irrevocable losses to all of the citizens of Florida occur because of this tax which is singular to our State.
