A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE CERTIFICATE OF THE CITY COMMISSION
APPOINTED COMMITTEE AS TO THE RESULTS OF THE NOVEMBER 3, 1987
GENERAL AND SPECIAL ELECTIONS.
WHEREAS, there has been submitted to the City Commission of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida the certification of the City Clerk, City Manager and
the City Attorney as the Committee appointed by the City Commission on July
15, 1987, to act as its representatives regarding the conduct of the November
3, 1987, general and special elections, and
WHEREAS, said committee has acted as the Commission representatives and
were present at the tabulation of the returns of the election as duly
conducted by the Elections Department of Metropolitan Dade County, and has
certified the returns of the elections;
NCM, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that having canvassed the returns of the November 3,
1987, general and special elections, as submitted by the committee hereinabove
referred to, it does hereby adopt the Certificate as to the results of said
elections and it is hereby ordered that the same certificate and this
resolution be recorded in the minutes of the meeting as a permanent record of
the results of said elections;
BE IT FURTHER FOUND, DETERMINED AND RESOLVED that the following
candidates for Mayor and City Commissioner, Groups III and IV received the
highest number of votes cast and are hereby declared ELECTED:
FOR MAYOR: Alex Daoud
FOR COMMISSIONER, GROUP III: William E. Shockett
FOR COMMISSIONER, GROUP IV: Abe Resnick
AND, BE IT FURTHER FOUND, DETERMINED AND RESOLVED THAT: Question
Nos. 1, 2 and 3 were approved and Question No. 4 was disapproved.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 4th day of _ November , 1987.

We, the City Clerk, City Manager and the City Attorney of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, do hereby certify that we have made an examination of the
returns of the General and Special Elections held in Miami Beach, Florida, on
November 3, 1987, as conducted by the Clerks and Inspectors who were duly
appointed by the Metropolitan Dade County Supervisor of Elections; and as
reflected by certification received from the Supervisor of Elections of Dade
County Florida; such examination having been made solely, exclusively and
entirely from such returns and certification; and DO HEREBY CERTIFY that as a
result of said examination we have found and DO HEREBY DECLARE the results of
said elections to be as follows:
THAT there were a total of 14,442 votes cast.
THAT:

11,368 votes were cast for Alex Daoud
1,147 votes were cast for Raphael Herman
1028 votes were cast for Marlin J. Pritzker
154 votes were cast for Peter "Pedro' Savolidis
FOR COMMISSIONER, GROUP III

1,358 votes were cast for Steve Remsen
9,921 votes were cast for William E. Shockett
FOR COMMISSIONER, GROUP IV
10,403 votes were cast for Abe Resnick

THAT UPON THE QUESTIONS:
QUESTION NO 1:
Amendment to Section 40 of the City Charter changing the qualifying periods
for elected office.
"Shall Section 40 of the Miami Beach City Charter be amended to change the
Commission election qualifying period from not more than forty-five days nor
less than thirty days prior to the general election to not more than one
hundred and thirteen days nor less than one hundred nine days prior to said
election?"
5,304 YES votes were cast
4,654 NO votes were cast
QUESTION NO. 2:
Amendment to City of Miami Beach Fire and Policemen's Pension Fund.
"Shall Chapter 23414, Laws of Florida, Special Acts of 1945, as amended,
being Article XVIII of the Charter of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
Sections 121 through 150 thereof, be amended to provide that persons who were
hired by the City on or before July 1, 1976 shall be entitled to the benefits
of the pension system available to persons who became members of the pension
system on or before July 1, 1976?"
7,828 YES votes were cast
2,957 NO votes were cast
QUESTION NO. 3:
Amendment to the City of Miami Beach Fire and Policemen's Pension Fund.
"Shall Chapter 23414, Laws of Florida, Special Acts of 1945, as amended,
being Article XVIII of the Charter of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
Sections 121 through 150 thereof, be amended to provide that widows married
to deceased members for ten or more years receive pensions to which the
deceased member was entitled or receiving at death for twelve months and
thereafter fifty per cent of such pension until remarriage or death?"
8409 YES votes were cast

QUESTION NO. 4:
Amendment to City Code to create Chapter on "Ambulance and Emergency
Services".
"Shall the Miami Beach City Code be amended to establish a chapter creating
"Ambulance and Emergency Service" providing for licensed physicians to
accompany all ambulance calls, equipment for treatment of emergency heart
patients to be included on rescue vehicles, the City to provide adequate
equipment and personnel for emergency treatment, and all necessary funds be
paid out of the City's emergency funds and/or from its regular budget, with
service recipients reimbursing the City?"
4,444 YES votes were cast
