SUBJECT: APPROPRIATION OF $37,750.00 FROM 1972 PARKS IMPROVEMENT
BOND FUND NO. 323
Mrs. Gwen Richman, President of the Palm/Hibiscus/Star Island Association,
appeared before the City Commission on December 18, 1987, requesting the
City of Miami Beach upgrade the Palm Island Park. Mrs. Richman presented
a proposal on the type of equipment the Association had in mind; a sketch
showing the proposed placement of same, and installation costs.
The Commission directed Administration to find available funds so that the -
park equipment could be installed. The proposal included the lighting of the
tennis courts, which the Commission rejected.
In the 1972 Park Improvement Bond Fund No. 323, the citizens voted to
develop the Palm Island Children's Park. This project is estimated to cost
$37,750 and there are sufficient funds in the unappropriated balance to
cover the costs.
There are several other area residents who are now requesting that
improvements be made to their neighborhood parks (Fisher Park, LaGorce
Park, etc.) This Bond Fund does not spell out the use of money in those
parks. Therefore, it is recommended that these projects be included in next
year's Capital Improvement Projects, and to be included in the proposed
1988/89 budget.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
The Administration recommends that the City Commission authorize an
appropriation in the amount of $37,750 for this project from the 1972 Parks
Improvement Bond Fund No. 323, and establish a Work Order to correctly
account for said funds.
