A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
SUPPORTING AND ENCOURAGING CONSTRUCTION
OF A BICYCLE PATH ON THE BEACH, FROM
GOVERNMENT CUT TO THE CITY'S NORTH
BOUNDARY AT 87TH TERRACE.
WHEREAS, at the City Commission meeting of October 5, 1988,
Mayor Alex Daoud requested that the City Administration
investigate the cost and funding source for construction of a
bicycle path on the beach, from Government Cut to the City's
north boundary at 87th Terrace; and
WHEREAS, the area where the bicycle path would be
constructed is under the jurisdiction of the State of Florida
Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Lands; and
WHEREAS, the Administration has requested conceptual
approval for construction of the bicycle path from the Division
of State Lands; and
WHEREAS, funding for the bicycle path can be obtained from
the legislature line item appropriation in the amount of $140, 000
received by Representative Elaine Bloom and reallocated bonds
funds to match State of Florida Recreational Grants that the City
can apply for once conceptual approval is granted; and
WHEREAS, construction of the bicycle path will provide
enjoyment and recreation for tourists as well as for residents of
the City of Miami Beach and Dade County.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Commission
supports and encourages the construction of a bicycle path on the
beach, from Government Cut to the City' s north boundary at 87th
Terrace.
