SUBJECT: APPROPRIATII OF $420,000.00 FROM THE 1972 PARKS IMPROVEMENT
BOND FUND NO. 322
On July 6, 1983, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 83-17402
which approved the execution of an agreement between the City of Miami
Beach and Capital Bank which stated in Section 7, paragraph e. :
"Within one (1) year from the date of completion of the
improvements, the CITY shall upgrade and refurbish the
present facilities located at Flamingo Park Tennis Center
(to be renamed the Flamingo Park-Capital Bank Tennis Center)
and shall complete said work no later than twelve (12)
months after the start thereof at its sole cost and expense,
not to exceed a total cost of $100,000. The upgrade shall
include refurbishing of existing restrooms, fence repair of
replacement and drainage improvements."
In October of 1986 all fencing for this facility was replaced and with
the conversion of the four (4) hard surface courts to clay in November
of 1987 some improvement in drainage was realized. The Public Services
Department has reviewed the possibility of refurbishing the existing
restrooms and finds due to their deteriorated condition and the
inadequacy of the existing facilities that replacement is a more viable
alternative.
As a result the Public Services Department is preparing to proceed on
three (3) addition improvement projects for this facility. The
following is a list of these projects, together with their estimated
costs.
1. Rebuilding of the three (3) courts in the $50,000
Abel Holtz Tennis Stadium.
2. Construction of new restroom and locker room $350,000
facilities.
3. Construction of concrete pads under the movable $20,000
bleachers.
Total $420,000
This project was approved by the Capital Improvements Committee in their
September 1, 1988 meeting.
