A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING IN
CONCEPT THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH PERFORMING
ARTS COMPLEX PLAN AND DESIGNATING THE SITE FOR
THE LOCATION OF THE SYMPHONY HALL AND THE
OPERA/BALLET (AUDITORIUM) THEATER
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has been a strong proponent
of performing arts and cultural programming; and,
WHEREAS, the New World Symphony has formed a Foundation for
the purposes of fund raising and construction of a Symphony Hall
in Miami Beach; and,
WHEREAS, the Greater Miami Opera and the Miami City Ballet
have also formed a Foundation for the purposes of fund raising and
construction of the Opera/Ballet (Auditorium) Theater in Miami
Beach; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is desirous of assisting both
Foundations in obtaining their goals of locating the Symphony Hall
and the Opera/Ballet (Auditorium) Theater in Miami Beach; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach, in an effort to assist the
Foundations, has prepared a plan which would locate the facilities
on a site bounded by Washington Avenue, 17th Street, Pennsylvania
Avenue and Lincoln Lane North and would provide funding for the
infrastructure necessary to meet the needs of the facilities,
subject to each of the Foundations making financial commitments
satisfactory to the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City of Miami Beach City
Commission hereby approves, in concept, the City of Miami Beach
Performing Arts Complex Plan and hereby designates the location of
such a complex to be bounded on the east by Washington Avenue, on
the north by 17th Street, on the south by Pennsylvania Avenue and
on the west by Lincoln Lane North.
