A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING IN CONCEPT,
A REVISED PLAN FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A
MEMORIAL MONUMENT TO BE DEDICATED TO
CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS, SPONSORED BY THE ORDER
OF FINE WINES OF SPAIN, UNDER THE DIRECTION OF
MILTON H. LEHR, CHAIRMAN, AND JOSE FEITO,
ARCHITECT, TO BE PLACED AT THE SOUTHERNMOST
TIP OF MIAMI BEACH AND AS FAR EAST AS IS
APPROVED BY PROPER AUTHORITIES, WITH THE FUNDS
FOR CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE OF THE
MONUMENT TO BE PROVIDED BY PRIVATE FUNDING AND
CONDITIONED UPON OBTAINING THE NECESSARY
PERMITS AND APPROVALS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF
THE MONUMENT FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA, U. S.
ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS OR ANY OTHER GOVERNMENT
OR AGENCY HAVING JURISDICTION OVER THE SITE OF
THE PROPOSED MONUMENT.
WHEREAS, on October 5, 1988, the Miami Beach City Commission
approved Resolution No. 88-19371 approving in concept a plan for
the establishment of a monument to be dedicated to Christopher
Columbus, to be located at the southernmost tip of Miami Beach;
and
WHEREAS, the City Commission is still desirous of establishing
a memorial monument to be dedicated to Christopher Columbus, to be
placed at the southernmost tip of Miami Beach and as far east as
is approved by proper authorities; and
WHEREAS, the memorial monument is sponsored by the Order of Fine
Wines of Spain, under the direction of Milton H. Lehr, Chairman
and Jose Feito, Architect and is now planned to consist of a 200
foot structure including statues of Christopher Columbus and Queen
Isabella at the top with the entire monument located on a plaza
which will have a promenade walkway coming down Government Cut; and
WHEREAS, the construction and maintenance of the above
referenced monument will be paid for by private funding; and
WHEREAS, the approval in concept is conditioned upon obtaining
the necessary permits and approvals for the construction of the
monument from the State of Florida, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
or any other government or agency having jurisdiction over the site
of the proposed monument.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, Florida to approve in concept the revised
plan for the establishment of a memorial monument to be dedicated
to Christopher Columbus, sponsored by the Order of Fine Wines of
Spain, under the direction of Milton H. Lehr, Chairman, and Jose
Feito, Architect, to be placed at the southernmost tip of Miami
Beach and as far east as is approved by proper authorities, with
the funds for construction and maintenance of the monument to be
provided by private funding and conditioned upon obtaining the
necessary permits and approvals for the construction of the
monument from the State of Florida, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
or any other government or agency having jurisdiction over the site
of the proposed monument.
