A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACKNOWLEDGING THE
IMPORTANCE OF NEW HOTEL DEVELOPMENT AND
RESOLVING TO ENCOURAGE SUCH PROJECTS IN MIAMI
BEACH VIA THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE RECOMMENDATION
OF MIAMI BEACH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE'S NEW HOTEL
DEVELOPMENT SUBCOMMITTEE IN REGARDS TO THE
FORMATION OF A TEN-MEMBER NEW HOTEL TASK FORCE
COMMITTEE, SAID COMMITTEE MEMBERS TO BE
APPOINTED BY THE CITY MANAGER WITH
CONSIDERATION GIVEN TO INCLUDING THOSE
EXPRESSING PARTICIPATION THEREIN, URGING THAT
THE PUBLIC BE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE AT SAID
COMMITTEE MEETINGS, AND PROVIDING THAT SAID
COMMITTEE REVIEW THE JANUARY 1975 BEYER,
BLINDER & BELLE CIVIC/CONVENTION CENTER COMPLEX
MASTER DEVELOPMENT PLAN IN AN EFFORT TO REDUCE
THE COST OF A CURRENT FEASIBILITY STUDY
WHEREAS, presently there is no headquartered hotel site within
walking distance of the Miami Beach Convention Center; and
WHEREAS, in view of the significant activity which is
progressing in the City now, the allocation of needed resources to
create such hotel development is appropriate; and
WHEREAS, in this endeavor, it is vital that the City and the
private sector work together to coordinate and orchestrate the
various development proposals; and
WHEREAS, it is also vital for the community to develop and
plan a strategy for how, where, and when to build a convention
center hotel and what level of incentives can be offered to
financially support the development of such a facility; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce' s New Hotel
Development Subcommittee has recognized the need for a ten-member
New Hotel Task Force to develop a five-year detailed strategic and
comprehensive plan in order to guide and direct a private sector
hotel development; and
WHEREAS, the City adopts the formation of a New Hotel Task
Force to be composed of members appointed by the Miami Beach City
Manager with consideration given to those expressing an interest
in participating therein, said meetings being open to public
participation; and

WHEREAS, the New Hotel Task Force will, as part of its duties,
review the January 1975 Beyer, Blinder, & Belle Civic/Convention
Center Complex Master Development Plan, in an effort to reduce the
cost of a current feasibility study.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Commission hereby
adopts the recommendation of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce' s
New Hotel Development Subcommittee regarding the formation of a
ten-member New Hotel Task Force Committee for the purposes of
encouraging and enhancing the timeframe for new hotel development
in Miami Beach, with the City Manager to appoint committee members
giving consideration to those expressing an interest in
participating therein, urging that the public be invited to
participate in said committee' s meetings, and providing that said
committee shall review the January 1975 Beyer, Blinder, & Belle
Civic/Convention Center Complex Master Development Plan, in an
effort to reduce the cost of a current feasibility study.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 20th day of September , 1989 .
