A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO THE INCREASE
IN THE WHOLESALE WATER AND SEWER RATES BEING CONSIDERED
BY THE MIAMI-DADE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND
ENCOURAGING THE MAINTAINANCE OF THE CURRENT RATES THROUGH
OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES AND THE EXAMINATION OF POTENTIAL
ADVANTAGES OF THE PRIVATIZATION OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY'S
WATER AND SEWER TREATMENT OPERATION
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach purchases potable water and sewer
treatment services from the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners for
distribution to Miami Beach and adjacent cities, and;
WHEREAS, the rate increase being considered by the Miami-Dade Board of
County Commissioners will increase the cost of water and sewer treatment
services by an estimated $1 million, and;
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach considers this increase an unreasonable
increase in cost and requests that the Miami-Dade Board of County
Commissioners seek to maintain the current rates through increased efficiencies
and examination of privatizing the water and sewer treatment operations.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that opposition to
the increase in wholesale water and sewer treatment rates being considered by
the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners is hereby expressed and the
maintenance of the rates at their present level and the examination of the
potential advantages of the privatization of Miami-Dade County's water and
sewer treatment operations is hereby encouraged.
