Parkins itzeCity Manager SUBJECT: INVITATION TO THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES The National League of Cities is soliciting bids for its 1995 Convention. In accord with our past interest in attracting a National League of Cities Convention, we would anticipate bidding for the approximately 9, 000 to 10, 000 people that attend the Convention. There are certain commitments that the National League will expect us to provide at the time that we formally submit our bid to the National League of Cities Executive Committee. As in the past, it would be our expectation to gain the support of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau together with Metropolitan Dade County and the City of Miami in order to satisfy any financial requirements prior to submitting our formal bid to the Executive Committee. The Resolution that we would ask you to adopt, however, places us in competition for consideration. Upon receipt of the Resolution and formal bid, a technical site inspection and evaluation is conducted by the staff of the National League of Cities. At the time that the site inspection and evaluation team presents its recommendations to the Board of Directors, we would be expected to firm up any commitments. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION: The City Administration recommends that the City of Miami Beach submit a bid to host the National League of Cities Convention in 1995.
