A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH EXPRESSING
GRATITUDE AND CONTINUING SUPPORT OF THE WORK
OF MIRIAM K. KASSENOFF, THE RESIDENT TEACHER
OF HOLOCAUST STUDIES FOR MULTI-CULTURAL
EDUCATION AT DADE ACADEMY OF TEACHING ARTS
(D.A.T.A. )
WHEREAS, this past February, the City of Miami Beach and its
citizens realized the fruition of years of plans and officially
opened the Holocaust Memorial in memory of those who suffered, and
those who survived the horrors of war; and
WHEREAS, one of the purposes of the Memorial was to
perpetually serve as a means for educating the world' s youth that
such atrocities should never again occur; and
WHEREAS, Miriam K. Kassenoff, a child survivor of the
Holocaust, scholarship recipient for Holocaust Studies in Israel,
and holder of the 1987 Peace Education of the Year Award for Dade
County, has devoted her time, energy and concern by conducting
daily field trips at the site, educating over 2 , 000 children and
over 600 teachers on the meaning of the Memorial ; and
WHEREAS, in order to express its thanks and continued support
to Miriam K. Kassenoff, the City Commission of the City of Miami
Beach wishes to formally commend, honor and endorse Miriam K.
Kassenoff for her work with the Memorial.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the Mayor and City Commission of the City
of Miami Beach formally supports the continued work of Miriam K.
Kassenoff as the official Resident Teacher of Holocaust Studies for
multi-cultural education at Dade Academy of Teaching Arts, and
implores the Dade County School Board to continue Miriam K.
Kassenoff in this position in recognition of her outstanding
achievements and in recognition of her representing the interests
of the City Commission and all the residents of Miami Beach.
