A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, CO-NAMING THAT
PORTION OF TENTH STREET BEGINNING ON OCEAN
DRIVE AND ENDING ON THE WEST SIDE OF
WASHINGTON AVENUE, ',BARBARA CAPITMAN WAY".
WHEREAS, Barbara Capitman devoted years of tireless and
unselfish effort to create and preserve a special section of the
City of Miami Beach known as the "Art Deco District" ; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Capitman was instrumental in causing the
City' s Art Deco District to be placed in the National Register of
Historic Places, as the "Miami Beach Architectural District" ,
thereby bringing national recognition and acclaim to the District
and to the City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Capitman founded such organizations as the
Art Deco Societies of America, the Miami Design Preservation League
and the First World Congress on Art Deco which are dedicated to the
conservation of properties of historical and architectural
significance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that in recognition of Barbara
Capitman' s above-described record of service and achievement to the
citizens of Miami Beach and of the world, we the Mayor and City
Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida do hereby co-name
that portion of Tenth Street on Miami Beach beginning on Ocean
Drive and ending on the west side of Washington Avenue "Barbara
Capitman Way" .
PASSED and ADOPTED this 9th day of January
1991.
