A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR A HIGHWAY
BEAUTIFICATION GRANT FROM THE STATE OF
FLORIDA, DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, FOR
LANDSCAPING IMPROVEMENTS ALONG FIFTH STREET
(S.R. AlA) FROM ALTON ROAD TO COLLINS AVENUE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, THAT
WHEREAS, many roadside areas and median strips abutting
Department of Transportation right-of-way areas must be maintained
and attractively landscaped; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and the City Commission desire that
the City of Miami Beach beautify and improve right-of-way areas
along Fifth Street (S .R. A1A) from Alton Road to Collins Avenue, by
providing landscaping improvements; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and the City Commission wish to
authorize the City Manager to apply for a Highway Beautification
Grant from the State of Florida, Department of Transportation, to
fund the proposed improvements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, that (1) the City Manager is
authorized to apply for a Highway Beautification Grant from the
State of Florida, Department of Transportation, to provide funding
for landscaping improvements along Fifth Street (S.R. A1A) from
Alton Road to Collins Avenue; and (2) the City Clerk of the City of
Miami Beach is hereby directed to send copies of this Resolution to
the State of Florida, Department of Transportation and all other
persons as directed by the Mayor and City Commission.

BY THE CITY MANAGER TO PROVIDE MATCHING FUNDS FOR
LANDSCAPING IMPROVEMENTS ALONG FIFTH STREET (S.R.
A1A) FROM ALTON ROAD TO COLLINS AVENUE.
BACKGROUND
On December 20, 1991, the City Administration received a grant
application package from the State of Florida, Department of
Transportation, which allows for the City of Miami Beach to apply
for matching funds of up to $200, 000 from the Florida Highway
Beautification Council for landscaping improvements along State
highways. It is anticipated if approved by the State of Florida
that these matching grant funds can be used for the landscaping
improvements along Fifth Street (S.R. A1A) from Alton Road to
Collins Avenue. A condition of the grant is that the City
Commission must approve a resolution authorizing the City Manager
to apply for the Highway Beautification Grant from the State of
Florida, Department of Transportation. The City Administration
has completed the grant application package and authorizing
resolution which is attached for the City Commission review and
approval.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
The City Administration recommends that the City Commission
approve the attached resolution which authorizes the City Manager
to apply for a Highway Beautification Grant from the State of
Florida, Department of Transportation Beautification Council for
landscaping improvements along Fifth Street (S.R. A1A) from Alton
Road to Collins Avenue.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: Please complete all items in this application, following
specific instructions carefully. All attached typed pages must be 81" x 11"; attached
sketches, pians, and maps must be no larger than 2' x 3' at an appropriate scale
with appropriate legends. When completed, 9 copies of the application form and
9 copies of all required sketches, plans, cost estimates, and resolutions should
be delivered to the appropriate District Maintenance Engineer (addresses are on
the last page) no later than February 1, of each year. Please keep at least 2 copies,
with original signatures, of all materials in your files; these will be needed if you
are awarded a grant (to be attached to the maintenance and grant agreements).
If you have any questions, please call the appropriate District Maintenance Engineer
for assistance.

by the governmental body which will sign the Maintenance and Grant Agreements
in the event the project is awarded a Grant. The Florida Highway Beautification
Council will review the data and compare it to the project plans in order to ensure
