Morales, City Manager DATE: February 26, 2019 SUBJECT: Committee for Quality Education Motions The Committee for Quality Education would like you to be aware of the following motions regarding businesses that sell tobacco and smoke products, approved at the February 26, 2019 committee meeting. C: Executive Staff Dr. Leslie Rosenfeld, Chief Learning Development Officer KGB/ - City of Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education Meeting of February 26, 2019 Members Present: Karmenchu Santana-Vega, Yvette Tache, Betsy Mateu, Judith Berson- Levinson, Mary Keinath, Ivan Alvarez, Beth Edwards, Tiffany Heckler, Monica Matteo-Santinas, Susie Stern, and Joshua Levy. Members Absent: Karen Edelstein, Jordan Leonard, Tiva Leser, and Rachel Weissman. Motion made by Dr. Judith Berson-Levinson Motion seconded by Betsy Mateu Motion Text: The Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Commission to restrict any establishments that sell tobacco and smoke products and/or paraphernalia and accessories to be located more than 300 feet from schools and that 415t street be designated a prohibition zone with no waiver/variance provisions. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 11-0 Motion made by Dr. Judith Berson-Levinson Motion seconded by Betsy Mateu Motion Text: The Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Commission to establish a minimum 1200 foot distance separation requirement between businesses that have more than 50% of their sales from tobacco and other smoke products and related paraphernalia and accessories. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 11-0
