Youth Music Festival – March 9, 2019 from 5pm-11pm 2. IT Miami Beach Senior High School – PTA counting computers. Requested to use Miami Norland computers for testing deficit as no computer bought in 5 years. MBSH PTSA will contribute $20,000 for computers 3. 41st Street crosswalk requested again due to youth accident. Motion made: Motion made by Dr. Judith Berson-Levinson Motion seconded by Tiffany Heckler Motion Text: The Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education is requesting assistance from the Mayor, Commissioners, and City Manager to urge FDOT to install a well identified pedestrian crossing across 41st Street at N. Jefferson Ave. (Starbucks and Burger King) especially following a student who was hit and badly injured while crossing. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 11-0 4. STEAM Plus Enhancement Update (Item R7M on Jan. 16, 2019 Agenda) discussed 5. Educational Enhancement proposed task force to discuss Convention Center Hotel rent contribution to Educational Enhancements discussed and to be scheduled. Set meeting dates at February meeting and invite interested members 6. Unfunded Educational Enhancement list review per 2017 education compact survey to be discussed in task force meetings 7. Medical Marijuana shop motions status and smoke shop on 41st street discussed and Commissioner Steinberg referred item to land use meeting. Edwards Motion Text: MINUTES COMMITTEE FOR QUALITY EDUCATION City of Miami Beach Tuesday, January 22, 2019 If you are unable to attend, please call Dr. Leslie Rosenfeld, Committee Liaison, at 305/673-7000 x6923 The Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Commission to consider the following items with regards to the City’s medical marihuana dispensaries: 1. Require a minimum of 1,200 feet distance between medical marihuana dispensaries; and, 2. No aggressive and obvious marijuana signage on the front and back windows and doors of these dispensaries. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 11-0 Motion made by Karen Edelstein Motion seconded by Rachel Weissman Motion Text: The Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Commission to consider the following items with regards to the City’s retail establishments and smoke/vape shops: 1. Require a minimum of 1,200 feet distance between smoke and vape shops; and, 2. No aggressive and obvious smoke/vape signage and paraphernalia on the front and back windows and doors of any retail establishments. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 11-0 8.
