A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RETROACTIVELY
APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF
DONATIONS AND SPONSORSHIPS FROM FITNESS BY
FERNANDO, LLC, ROYLES GOURMET CATERING, LLC,
DESTINATION BRANDS INTERNATIONAL, LLC, AND THE
COCA-COLA COMPANY, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF
$4,500.00, FOR THE CITY'S ANNUAL FAMILY SERVICE DAY
EVENT HELD ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2019, AND FURTHER
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO
APPROPRIATE SUCH SPONSORSHIP FUNDS AND
DONATIONS TO MAKE ANY NECESSARY
REIMBURSEMENTS AND/OR EXPENDITURES IN
FURTHERANCE OF AND CONSISTENT WITH THE EVENT.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach hosted its eighth annual Family Service Day event
("Event") on Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, the free event engaged the community in projects that aim to enhance local
parks, restore sand dunes crucial to the coastal enviorment, promote school attendance and
enviornemental sustainability, transform schools into healthy, safe and productive learning
environments, and promote intergenerational dialogue between the youth and senior citizens;
and
WHEREAS, participants were also introduced to community-based services and
resources, many of which are free, including Success University Program, All-Stars Program,
Parent-Child Program, and Homeless Outreach; and
WHEREAS, all volunteers were eligible to receive up to four (4) hours of community
service in exchange for their time; and;
WHEREAS, hundreds of volunteers of all ages gathered for a day of public service at and
around North Beach Oceanside Park, 8101 Collins Avenue to participate in on- and off-site
projects, including the following:
•Beach cleanups across three different locations
•Child finger printing
•CPR training
•Cross-cultural engagement activities
•Community landscape beautification
•Intergenerational recreation program
•Homeless outreach
•School garden beautification project
•Tri-fitness experience; and
WHEREAS, a portion of the event focused on educating the public about the importance
of educational achievement and school attendance, as well as offer parenting tips, resource
lists, and referrals to community-based programs; and
WHEREAS, the event also offered information on the many services available in Miami
Beach, including career services, job training, counseling, youth development programs, truancy
prevention initiatives, educational support, and health care services among others. The One
Blood Mobile will be on site encouraging blood donations.
WHEREAS, City staff worked diligently to identify funding sources to offset the costs of
the event and secured partnerships through sponsorships and donations from Fitness by
Fernando, LLC, Royles Gourmet Catering, LLC, Destination Brands International, LLC, and the
Coca-Cola Company; and
WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission
retroactively approve the sponsorships, and accept the donations from aforestated sponsors, in
the total amount of $4,500.00, for the City's annual Family Service Day event held on
September 21, 2019; and
WHEREAS, the City Administration further recommends that Mayor and City Commission
authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to appropriate such sponsorship funds and
donations to make any necessary expenditures and/or reimbursements in furtherance of and
consistent with the aforestated event and its purpose.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby retroactively approve and authorize the acceptance of donations and
sponsorships from Fitness by Fernando, LLC, Royles Gourmet Catering, LLC, Destination
Brands International, LLC, and the Coca-Cola Company, in the total amount of $4,500.00, for
the City's annual Family Service Day event held on September 21, 2019, and further authorize
the City Manager, or his designee, to appropriate such sponsorship funds and donations to
make any necessary reimbursements and/or expenditures in furtherance of and consistent with

ANALYSIS
