A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING
RESOLUTION NO. 2019-31002, AND FINDING THAT A
PUBLIC BENEFIT AND PURPOSE EXISTS SUCH THAT
THE CITY COMMISSION WISHES TO DECLARE THE 2019
CELEBRITY BEACH SOCCER MATCH BENEFITING BEST
BUDDIES EVENT (THE "EVENT"), WHICH WILL BE HELD
ON NOVEMBER 23, 2019, IN THE SAND BOWL LOCATED
EAST OF THE UNIDAD NORTH BEACH SENIOR CENTER
AT 7251 COLLINS AVENUE, AN OFFICIAL "CITY-
SPONSORED" EVENT.
WHEREAS, in November, 2018, the General American Capital Partners, LLC
("GACP") hosted the first annual Celebrity Beach Soccer Match benefiting Best Buddies,
a nonprofit dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates
opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership
development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the 2019 Celebrity Beach Soccer Match will be held on Saturday,
November 23, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., in the sand bowl located east of the
Unidad North Beach Senior Center at 7251 Collins Avenue (the "Event"); and
WHEREAS, celebrities, soccer stars, models, and Best Buddies will gather for the
ultimate Celebrity Beach Soccer Match in a unique, fun-filled day of curated events that
will feature 7-on-7 friendly matches, meet-and-greet, children's clinics, soccer training
fitness class, show-cases, brand activations and more; and
WHEREAS, the public, as well as industry professionals, sport enthusiasts, local
government, and influencers alike can look forward to a family-friendly event with
individuals from different cultures and all over the world; and
WHEREAS, at the June 28, 2019 Finance and Citywide Projects Committee
Meeting (the "Committee"), the Committee approved and recommended the waiver of
special event permit fees for the Event, in an amount not to exceed $20,226.49; and
WHEREAS, on September 25, 2019, the Mayor and City Commission adopted
Resolution No. 2019-31002 (the "Resolution"), accepting the Committee's
recommendation and waiving the special event permit fees, in the amount not to exceed
$20,226.46; and
WHEREAS, given the important message this event conveys — that is, fostering
diversity, multiculturalism, friendships, and leadership development for people with
intellectual and developmental disabilities — the City Commission finds that there is a
significant public benefit and purpose in lending the City's name to the event, and declares
the 2019 Celebrity Soccer Match an official, "City-sponsored" event.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby amend Resolution No. 2019-31002, and find that a public benefit and
purpose exists such that the City Commission wishes to declare the 2019 Celebrity Beach
Soccer Match, benefiting Best Buddies, which will be held on November 23, 2019 in the
sand bowl located east of the Unidad North Beach Senior Center at 7251 Collins Avenue,
an official "City-sponsored" event.
