A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DENYING FURTHER CONSIDERATION
OF THE NEW WORLD FOUNDATION'S PROPOSAL TO LOCATE
THE ''COLUMBUS'' STATUE AND ASSOCIATED INTERPRETIVE
CENTER AT THE END OF THE NORTH GOVERNMENT CUT JETTY
ADJACENT TO THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH.
WHEREAS, the Russian sculptor, Zurab Tseretel i, has created a
monumental statue entitled "Novy Svyet" or "New World" ; and
WHEREAS, the New World Foundation has been Formed to secure
the most appropriate location for "Novy Svyet" and has selected a
location at the end of the North Government Cut Jetty adjacent to
the City of Miami Beach as a potential location; and
WHEREAS, after public discussion on January 6, 1993 , the Mayor
and City Commission wish to formally reject the placement of the
statue in the City of Miami Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City Commission is not willing to undertake
further consideration of the development of the statue.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 6th day of January , 1993 .
