A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING
THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
PROPOSED DESIGNATION OF THE FOLLOWING
SPECIFIED ROADWAYS AS PART OF THE NATIONAL
HIGHWAYS SYSTEM IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS
FUNDING PROGRAM: MACARTHUR CAUSEWAY BRIDGE
AND 5TH STREET EAST TO COLLINS AVENUE, COLLINS
AVENUE NORTH TO 41ST STREET (INDIAN CREEK
SOUTHBOUND) AND CONTINUING WEST ON TO JULIA
TUTTLE CAUSEWAY WITH ONE (1) EXCEPTION, THAT
BEING THAT COLL!NS AVENUE FROM 5TH STREET TO
23RD STREET WILL NOT BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED AS
A ROADWAY WITHIN THE FEDERAL REGISTER
HISTORIC DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach needs to rehabilitate specified arterial
roadways to meet increased traffic flow demands; and
WHEREAS, these roadways must meet service level criteria established by the
Florida Department of Transportation; and
WHEREAS, the National Highways System designation for these roads provides
a source of funding for maintenance and construction thereof; and
WHEREAS, the roadway on Collins Avenue between 5th Street and 23rd Street
is an integral part of the Federal Register Historic District, and is protected to the full
extent of this law.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1 . The Mayor and the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach hereby
supports the Florida Department of Transportation proposed designation of the following
specified roadways as part of the National Highways System in order to qualify for this
funding program: Maparthur Causeway bridge and 5th Street east to Collins Avenue,
Collins Avenue north to 41st Street (Indian Creek southb und) and corttinuing west on
to Julia Tuttle Causeway with one (1) exception, that being that Collins A'enue from 5th
Street to 23rd Street will not be adversely affected as a roadway within the Federal
Register Historic District.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 5th day of May, 1993.
