RESOLUTION NO. 93-20794
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA URGING PRESIDENT
CLINTON TO REVIEW THE SENTENCE OF
JONATHAN POLLARD AND TO CONSIDER
COMMUTING HIS SENTENCE TO THE
TIME HE HAS ALREADY SERVED IN
PRISON.
WHEREAS, Jonathan Pollard has been incarcerated by the
United States government in a maximum security prison for seven
years; and
WHEREAS, he received a life sentence for giving classified
information to the State of Israel ; and
WHEREAS, many people believe that Pollard' s sentence is
disproportionate to his crime in that the State of Israel was
and is an ally of the United States and the information passed
by Pollard may have saved many lives including those of U.S .
military forces participating in "Desert Storm" by contributing
to the destruction of a nuclear reactor in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, many others convicted of similar acts have
received lesser sentences than Pollard' s; and
WHEREAS, many others convicted of spying for an enemy have
received lesser sentences; and
WHEREAS, any government purpose for incarcerating Pollard
has already been served by his past seven years in prison; and
WHEREAS, the President of the United States has the power
to commute Pollard' s sentence to the time he has already served
in prison; and
WHEREAS, numerous organizations throughout the United
States have issued statements calling for Pollard' s sentence to
be so commuted.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the City Commission
hereby urges President Clinton to review the sentence of

Jonathan Pollard and to consider commuting his sentence to the
time he has already served in prison.

President Bill Clinton to review the life imprisonment sentence of
Jonathan Pollard and to consider commuting the sentence to the
seven years' time already served by Pollard in prison.
